Many moons ago, I worked for 10 years in an Insurance Company in Dublin. We were treated brilliantly. Management had the knack of teaching and practising emotional intelligence, which stretched to Friday nights at the pub, music/singing/dancing/shenanigans, and more... Some of my closest friends now, are those that I worked with during the ten formative years. How did this company KNOW when to get the best out of people? Easy. They actually cared, gave a Damn, and had ZERO Tolerance for Serial Hackers and Blood Thirsty Vampires who stuff up productive team work.
These two dogs represent the forward thinking employer and employee. Those who play together stay together. What do you think? Holidays. With. Work. Colleagues. It can be done. Maybe Not!
I work from home but in the past I have slogged away in (one or two) stinking suffocating offices where a select few were good enough for said Professional Employer and basic human rights were not encouraged. On occasion, a minority of poxy business media outlets do not publish in the public interest but rather, pander to Big Advertising. This is changing for the better with ethical media and journalism on the rise.
I took some self-imposed defence classes for the apparently oppressed and voted with my feet. Are you a critical thinker? Can you ruminate your way out of a tight corner? A Problem Solver. OR. Solutions. Based.

From my perspective in the present, it appears that workers who have half a chance of earning a living wage and being treated fairly at work are those who join a well run union, and know their human rights. Sally McManus from Australian Unions is Changing The Rules for all workers especially young employees who have been done over like a Dog's Dinner in many cases, especially financially (not to mention massive loss in penalty rates). Are You For Sale? We can change the present and future if we choose wisely through Awareness and Action, as Smart Consumers.
My friend George is not a big fan of collectivism but he agrees in People Power.
Are you happy regarding how much money you earn, from the hands that feed you? Do you have a super-duper Boss who puts his or her employees' interests before clients? Maybe you ARE the Boss who gives a Damn. No. Fibs! Now.
